Born into a noble Spanish family, Ignatius entered the army and won honors for his bravery in battle. Wounded by a cannonball, he began reading about the saints. He was ordained a priest and, with others, founded the Society of Jesus. The Jesuits became missionaries, still teaching and preaching all over the world.
