When a brave knight is called upon to serve his king, he is determined to be a devoted servant, rather than an errant knight wandering aimlessly about the kingdom. However, as he travels toward the castle, he is repeatedly stopped by people in need. Despite his sense of duty to the king, the knight’s compassionate, selfless nature compels him to help those in distress.
Many years pass, and the knight is old and frail when he finally reaches the castle. Certain that his errant ways have rendered him a failure, he is shocked to discover that the king has learned of his generosity and kindness. Honored as a hero, the knight sees that by serving the people, he has both followed his heart and fulfilled his service to the king.
Winner of the Storytelling World Award for Stories for Adolescent Listeners, The Errant Knight was also a finalist for ForeWord Magazine’s Children’s Book of the Year Award and the NAPRA Nautilus Best Children’s Book Award. Doug Keith’s vibrant illustrations perfectly complement Ann Tompert’s poignant story.
